I began my journey with Reiki over 20 years ago, firstly receiving treatments, then going on to develop an interest in training myself.
My first treatment happened by chance, I saw an advert for Reiki at my local gym and thought I’d give it a try, I’d not heard of it before, but it sounded great. It turned out to be the first of many. Various Reiki practitioners suggested to me that I ought to learn Reiki, and eventually the timing was right and I booked myself onto a local Reiki I course.
My first attempt a learning Reiki was however very disappointing. I came away from my Reiki I course confused and unsure what exactly I was supposed to do or how I was to proceed. I continued to have reiki treatments occasionally, but I hadn’t truly begun my journey.
I was fortunate enough a few years later to come across a Reiki Master Teacher though Reiki Evolution, and I re-started my training by repeating Reiki I or Shoden. And what a difference! Everything was clear, easy to understand and above all made sense. The approach was free from ‘clutter’ and other peoples’ interpretations and seemed to be just about the Reiki itself.
I was always a very driven and ambitious person, and was clear in my mind from the start that I would complete Reiki I, II and III. Everyone talked about “when the time is right”, but I was sure I would just “get on with it”. Having completed Reiki I and II, I didn’t make immediate plans for Reiki III. Far more time passed that I probably expected would, however, one day I just felt ready, picked up the phone and booked my place with the same Master Teacher as had taken me though Reiki I and II. It turn out that it was the last place on his last ever course, and I am so thankful that something compelled me to book that day!
My Reiki Master Teacher training was truly a catalyst for changing my life. It was around this time that I decided to give up my corporate career and pursue a very different life. I wanted to work with horses, but wasn’t sure how much of a business I could develop just with reiki. I therefore went on to train and an animal/equine physiotherapist, McTimoney-Corley Spinal Therapist and a whole raft of other things. Now, I can honestly say, as much of my work is about Reiki than anything else, it really has gone full circle, and has come back to Reiki.
Now that I teach others, I found that using the same approach that helped me so much was the obvious choice. That is why I am proud to be part of the Reiki Evolutions Team of Practitioners. It is reassuring for me to know that my teaching is grounded in such a sensible, established lineage.
