My name is Debbie McDougall and I run Reiki Evolution Courses for southeast Wiltshire and Hampshire. I live with my husband and 2 children. I started my own Reiki Teaching, Workshop and Holistic Therapy business in 2005.
I now work from the prestigious Hall at 4 New Street in Salisbury City centre.
I hold Reiki I Courses monthly and Reiki II and Master/Teacher Courses every other month. I also offer 1:1 teaching on request and work around Student’s busy life-styles.
Teaching with Reiki Evolution
I have been teaching Reiki since summer 2005 and had always preferred to teach 1 to 1 or groups of 2 or 4. I tailor the training to each student as Reiki is so personal to each individual and it’s important to encourage them to build up a relationship with their Reiki over time. When I found Reiki Evolution, after a long search for what I felt was ‘right’, I was disappointed to find that there wasn’t anyone in my area that taught the courses. As a result, once I had completed my Master/Teacher course with Reiki Evolution, I asked Taggart if he would consider me as a member of his Teaching Team. I’m pleased to say he has!

I also approach my Reiki Teaching in a down-to-earth, grounded way. I respect other’s beliefs and like to give the best of myself to each Student. Although I teach Reiki primarily as a tool for Spiritual and Personal growth, I respect the individual’s reasons for choosing Reiki and support them in their decisions. My support is given for life, no matter whether the Student needs continuous support or returns after several months or even years!
Reiki Shares
I hold a Reiki share in Salisbury on alternate Monday evenings. I’ve been running it for about a year now and we have a wonderful core group with others coming and going as they please. It’s open to all Reiki Practitioners, and also to non-practitioners who are interested in learning more about Reiki (non-practitioners by prior arrangement in order to balance numbers!). I hold the group in The Hall as there is plenty of space for 2 or more couches. I do have to charge a small fee of £2 per person to cover the room rental. The first 45 minutes is open to anyone who would like to bring something new to the group, eg a meditation, a new article or exercise etc, then we spend the last hour sharing Reiki.
My Background
My background is one of Nursing ending up as a Nurse in the QA’s in the army for 5 years before settling down and having children. My husband was also in the army and we moved every couple of years until he became a civilian and we settled in Salisbury. At 40 I did my Midwifery training, but gave up clinical work as I became disillusioned with hospital Midwifery and moved to Governance work, with no more shifts or night duty! After much soul searching, I finally left the NHS in the summer of 2008 as its current culture no longer felt right for me. I can now devote my time to my business and Reiki Training.
How Reiki Found me
My Reiki story started shortly after my Mother died. Her illness was sudden, but her passing was prolonged and we, the family, had to decide to ‘allow’ her to die and let the hospital staff switch off her ventilator. After such a traumatic event, something had to give! I was having lunch in Salisbury with Hannah, my daughter and she insisted we visit the Psychic Fair in the Guildhall. I wanted to try Indian Head Massage, but the queue was very long, so I settled for Reiki. I didn’t know what on earth Reiki was, but there were 2 ladies and no-one waiting so I opted for that, thinking it was some kind of hand massage!
I had never considered myself as psychic, or being sensitive to energies, but as soon as they started, I felt a ‘hum’ like a wave throughout my body and knew exactly where their hands were hovering without looking. The busy room was full of noise, but this faded into obscurity as wave after wave of gently energy flooded my body and mind…………..it completely blew me away.
After this, I knew I wanted to learn more and took both leaflets without asking which leaflet belonged to which Reiki Master. When I got home I knew which one of the women I wanted to go to, so I decided to choose a leaflet and hope for the best – it worked, I ended up going for a session with the lovely smiling Reiki Master, Lynda Buchanan, who radiated warmth and laughter! I had a few treatments, then took my Reiki 1, 2 and Master with her over the course of about 14 months. At each level I learned more, felt more and just knew Reiki was right for me. Lynda is a fabulous teacher, but I knew there was more to learn and I knew I wanted something more ‘traditional’, closer to Usui’s original system – one for Spiritual growth, not just healing self and others.
I continued my search and started to teach in the summer of 2005. My first Student was a lovely lady wanting to do her Reiki Master/Teacher – talk about baptism by fire! Still, I knew if ‘Headquarters’ felt I was ready, then I would give my very best.
I continued to explore the internet for inspiration as I wanted to give more to my Students. I was delighted to find Reiki Evolution toward the end of 2005 and, having read all the available articles from Taggart, knew that his ethos and down-to-earth approach to Reiki was in harmony with my own. As such, I started to include his articles in my training package and also used excerpts from his manuals in my own (with his permission and a full reference of course!)
In the summer of 2007 I decided to take the Reiki Evolution distance Master/Teacher course. I wasn’t really sure how it would work out as I prefer a person to person approach. However, I was very quickly amazed at the power I felt through the exercises. The course extended my practice and broadened my horizons significantly and I experienced some quite wonderful changes in my own psychic and channeling abilities as well as my life in general. I continue to be amazed by Reiki and all things Spiritual, as it shows me what an incredible world we live in.
Reiki has taken me on a journey that cannot be described with mere words. It has led me to meet some very special people from all over the world, people who live from the heart, with Unconditional Love, and this is what Life, the Universe and Everything is really all about.
