Hello, I am Martine Moorby, and I am a member of Taggart King’s team of Reiki Evolution teachers. I started teaching Reiki in 2001, and joined Reiki Evolution as an Associate at Taggart’s invitation in 2006. I have been running regular Reiki courses at all levels in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, since 2001.
In 2004 I ran the first three-day Reiki and Personal/Spiritual Development Residential Retreat in Cumbria, which has become an annual event, offering people trained in Reiki a space for reflection and practice, given that our journey with Reiki either starts with or encourages often profound and sometimes confusing inner change.
Many Reiki courses do not offer on-going developmental support, and this is one of the aspects of learning with Reiki Evolution that is the most valuable: once the course is over, you can join the discussion forum, where help and support are available from your peers. Your teacher and Taggart remain available for support for as long as you feel you need it. This is a far cry from the ‘one-day-course-and-good-bye’ criticism I have heard levied against Reiki over the years.
Reiki Shares
In the spirit of development taking place over time, once a month I run an evening Reiki Practice and Development Group in Harrogate. It is a real community of like-minded people, sometimes totalling up to 20, who come together to meditate, ask questions, do distant healing, receive an empowerment and share multi-handed Reiki treatments. It’s a powerful group experience and a real treat.
Every year, I run Reiki Energy Days, some with specialist themes.
The joy of teaching Reiki
I really enjoy teaching Reiki. It is a pleasure to witness students, male and female, from all ages and backgrounds, recognise, develop and affirm the latent healing abilities and personal potential we all have, and to which end Mikao Usui developed such a simple and universally accessible system.
Through being empowered into Reiki, I discovered that my own relationship with subtle energies deepened, became stronger and more consistent, and through its practice I became more aware of how my intuition works and can be developed further. To share this learning with others and help them experience and develop the potential for themselves is a great joy.
The Reiki Evolution training materials are second to none: comprehensive, multi-media, addressing different learning styles, well researched and devoid of fluffy and unhelpful ‘New Ageism’. With a maximum class size of six, every student has a chance to ask their questions in an unhurried atmosphere.
How did I get here? My journey with Reiki
Born in France, my love of the English language brought me to this country over 20 years ago. After gaining my degree in France, I qualified as a teacher at the University of Leeds in 1983. I taught French for 17 years in secondary education. I first encountered Reiki in 1997. I had a dream job as Head of Modern Languages back then. However, with the demands of my position changing, and bringing up two children, I became interested in ways of alleviating stress and maintaining not only physical and emotional balance, but also satisfying my spiritual needs. I had always been interested in and had an affinity with all things spiritual and subtle, and was fortunate enough to have grown up with tolerance for my spiritual experiences.
When I did Reiki 1 in 1998, I wasn’t sure I wanted many people to know at first. It was still a bit marginal then! If anyone therefore had even hinted at the fact that I would give up a successful mainstream career to teach it, I would have been deeply suspicious of their motive or psychic ability, and yet… Reiki invites change, and when you learn to flow with it, it really does support it.
Three years after my first encounter with Reiki, in 2000, the time felt right to move on and set up my own practice, which included further qualifying as a Life Coach. As “luck” would have it, at the same time, I was given the opportunity to be a member of a small team of professional complementary therapists attached to a day oncology ward at Harrogate Hospital. The other team members offered a rich variety of skills, including reflexology and aromatherapy. I was the only Reiki “specialist”, and it was obvious that the staff weren’t too sure about it. Reiki quickly became popular however, and all members of the team offer Reiki now, as well as other therapies. It is a privilege to be a channel through which Reiki, in its varied richness, supports these patients, some of whom have gone on to learn it themselves.
Back in 2000, one-to-one work with the occasional speaking engagement was, I thought, the plan for me! However, I was soon asked if I would teach Reiki, and I found myself teaching again. I haven’t stopped. I now run a variety of other workshops exploring Energy Medicine, Holistic Wellbeing and Spiritual Development. I was born to teach - there is no escaping destiny!
To start with, I taught Western/Tibetan Reiki but I heard about something called Reiju Empowerments, and I thought this would be great for the Reiki Shares. I was keen to learn Reiju Empowerments, and was curious about the real origins of Reiki.
My meeting with Taggart was as “accidental” or “lucky” and well-timed as many other encounters on my journey. In fact, I could say he met me. An e-mail simply arrived in my in-box one day, and a dialogue was begun. Delight came with the simplicity and genuineness with which Taggart engaged, as my experience had generally been that Reiki Masters kept their cards close to their chest. And so it was that I decided to study Reiki again with Taggart, learn the Reiju Empowerments I had been seeking to learn, and re-do my Master Teacher training with him, in Essex in January 2003.
Having kept in touch with Taggart and Reiki Evolution, I was delighted to join his team, and continue to share this wonderful personal and spiritual development method and healing art that Reiki is. He has the best training materials and the most generous support system that I have ever encountered.
Reiki energy never ceases to enrich my personal journey and my commitment to self-awareness and growth. I am passionate about the potential we all have for living authentic and rewarding lives, and am wired for wonder and life-long learning!
Reiki for me supports Change, of any kind. Teaching it is straightforward and a delight, and I support my students long-term. I am experienced, trustworthy, have a good sense of humour and also additional trainings that make me very safe to work with….. but I’ll let the testimonials speak for themselves. Reiki has undoubtedly played a big part in developing my way of being, my practice and what I am able to bring to others.
