My Reiki Story: Annie Kennell

This is another in our series of “My Reiki Story” posts that we will be adding to the Reiki Evolution blog, where a Reiki person talks about their journey with Reiki. In today’s “My Reiki Story” we hear from Annie Kennell from Hampshire…

My Name is Annie Kennell www.pamperpartiesgirls.co.uk and I’m from Hampshire and below is my story.

I was suffering from severe migraines that were having a dilapidating effect on my life. I was on a canal boat and we were moored in the middle of no where, which is how we liked it, when a boat appeared and moored right behind us – the woman on board apologised for spoiling our isolation but explained that she was travelling alone from London to Banbury and was finding it a little frightening in the countryside. She had a sign on top of her boat saying that she gave various therapies including Reiki.

The next day I awoke with a terrible migraine, I was physically ill and mentally confused. I asked the women on the boat behind if she could give me some Reiki (knowing nothing at all about it). The session relaxed me so much that I stopped being physically ill and I was able to drift off into a deep sleep and woke hours later with all my symptoms having disappeared. Whilst I was asleep the women had motored off. Obviously she was meant to of appeared when she had.

I was so bowled over by the experience and some months later passed another boat with a sign saying Reiki Master. I arranged to learn Reiki with the sole view of healing myself. I was taught the Western Reiki 1 way over a period of some months. I very quickly released that the path I was being taught was not for me so I adapted what I had learnt to suit me and proceeded to use Reiki on myself, my dogs and within in my life. I learnt to recognise when a migraine was going to start and was able with Reiki to stop them. I listened to my intuition when using the energy. For three years I stayed at Reiki 1 level until I was moored on my boat on the Kennet and Avon canal in Wiltshire when I had the urge to progress my Reiki. I looked on the internet and found Bath Reiki – I was firstly drawn to the site as I love Bath – I read Jay’s many articles and decided that his views/way of teaching Reiki was much more attuned to my views. This proved to be totally correct and I took my Reiki 11 and Master with Jay and I have never looked back.

This way of teaching does on enforce hard rules of hand positions or timings. With this way of teaching we are all able to engage as much or as little ceremony as we wish, to add to, expand or reduce. I love the idea that within the Reiki Evolution way of teaching anything can be explored, discussed, tried, changed to suit people as individuals and to enable individuals to work with their intuition. There is a freedom within these teaching but at the same time the beauty of the original teachings are not lost but rather enhanced.

Namaste

Annie

  1. What a lovely story, Annie……. and how amazing to have that “synchronicity” of Reiki being right where you needed it. I find these “coincidences” amazing……. Maybe you will put a sign on your boat (what is her name?) and offer Reiki treatments on the water………….

  2. OOh, I just taught Reiki Mastership to someone who lives on a boat too, and he offers various complementary therapies onboard – it sounds totally marvellous and….. I NOW WANT A BOAT as a therapy room!!
