I believe that there are many Reiki people out there who would dearly love to find out what Mikao Usui actually taught, and who would love to connect to what Usui was doing. Many people feel that there is 'something missing' from their practice of Reiki, that there must be something more than they were taught. This is a common feeling. Our course is all about Reiki techniques that are part of our Reiki birthright: simple practices that formed the foundation of Mikao Usui's simple and elegant spiritual system, but which were never transmitted to the West. This course is all about Mikao Usui's 'method to achieve personal perfection'.

Where does your information come from?

Amazingly, a group of Mikao Usui's students are still alive. There were about a dozen of them still alive when contect was first made with them in about the year 2000, the youngest of whom was then 107 years old. They are talking to one or two people in the West, and I am presenting information that has been shared with Chris Marsh, a high-level Japanese martial arts practitioner and Reiki Master from the North East of England. We also pass on a few interesting things that have been uncovered by Frank Arjava Petter and Hiroshi Doi, but the most accurate and exciting information is coming from Usui's surviving students. This is a very confusing time when it comes to 'Usui's Reiki' and we cut through the confusion and the conflicting claims to show you how Usui taught, what he taught and - importantly - what he didn't teach.

Who is the course for?

The course deals with Usui Sensei's original approaches at Shoden (First Degree) and Okuden (Second Degree) levels, and so is appropriate for people at Second Degree and Master (or Master/Teacher) levels who have not trained with Reiki Evolution.

Please note that this is not a beginner's course in Reiki: this is an 'update' course for people who are already at Reiki Second Degree level or Masters.

Why would I want to learn all this stuff?

Because these techniques 'fill the gaps' that many people feel that there are in Western-style Reiki, they are simple, elegant and powerful, they are making a real difference to people, and they provide a solid foundation to work from. They take Reiki onto a new level, and emphasise to us that you can really develop your Reiki potential if you are prepared to dedicate yourself and practice the tools and exercises presented on this course. Usui's method puts the focus on you, and gives you daily practices to use to enhance your self-healing, your spiritual development, your intuition. Connecting with Usui sensei's method helps you to cut through all the complications and clutter that have crept into Western Reiki over the years.

About the Course Itself

Mikao Usui's system at First and Second Degree levels consisted of daily energy exercises, self-treatment meditations, spiritual empowerments, the use of intuition when treating others, and the use of sacred Shinto mantras. Anyone can learn these.

The course will take approx. 12 weeks to complete, and is based on carrying out a series of graded 'energy projects'. You will be doing something with energy most days, but you are unlikely to be spending more than 45 minutes most days.

The course materials consist of a comprehensive Downloadable Manual in PDF format, separate course instructions, and audio CD which we send to you through the post. The manual contains text, descriptions and digital images. The audio CD contains some 'commentary' tracks and a number of guided energy exercises and meditations, and lasts for over 1 hour.

With these materials, and this approach, I am happy that the course gives you as much as you would have had, had you attended one of our 'live' courses on the subject. In fact, I think that this home study course has some definite advantages for you: instead of having the time available to you limited by the length of a day course, you can now work by yourself for a much longer period, and you will have the opportunity to spend a lot longer working with the various exercises.

Receive one-to-one support as you work through your course

It would not really be good enough to just give a student some training materials and tell them to get on with it. We think that it is very important to make sure that our home study students have carried out all the practical exercises that they need to carry out in order to feel confident in what they are doing, and it is important that we are on hand to answer and questions or queries that our students have, and to advise them and support them as they progress through their course.

What we do is to break the course down into a series of stages, or 'projects', where for each stage the student does some reading, listens to the audio commentary, carries out practical energy exercises and then sends us feedback by e-mail to let us know what they have done and what they have experienced. We can then gear our support to what the student has done and what they need. Training is one-to-one.

Audio CD accompanies the course

The Original Usui Reiki course is accompanied by a special audio CD that contains commentary tracks, a kotodama pronunciation guide, and guided meditations, talking you through the main meditations that you learn on the course. The guided meditations take you through Hatsu Rei Ho (energy exercises) a self-treatment meditation that Usui taught, and a symbol meditation that helps you to use the Reiki symbols to echo Usui Sensei's original approach. So instead of fumbling around trying to read the instructions in your manual while trying to keep in the flow of it, you can simply flip on the CD, close your eyes, and follow the instructions. Your meditations will flow all the more easily because of this, and you'll learn how to do them without having to try too hard!

The Course Manual

Each Reiki Evolution course is accompanied by a comprehensive manual that covers everything we teach during your course, and more besides. Our "Original Usui Reiki" course manual runs to 80 A4 pages and provides you with a permanent record of your training. It is a useful reference volume. The Certificate

The "Original Usui Reiki" home study course is accompanied by a certificate of completion, displaying the seal of the Reiki Evolution school and signed by Taggart King, your teacher.

Is there a live course that I can attend?

This course is now only available as a home study course. It was run as a live course in from 1999 - 2003, by Taggart King. The content of this home study course is the same, though with the difference that you now have unlimited practice time!
