"Teaching Reiki at evening class" - a guide for Reiki Master Teachers

Home >> Reiki self-help guides >> Teaching Reiki at evening class

Reiki Evolution were asked to provide evening classes at Sawston Village College in Cambridgeshire, and Tuesday 25th September 2001 saw the first session of a ten-week Reiki practitioner course, covering Reiki First and Second Degrees. We limited ourselves to teaching a group of 12 students on our evening class, and the course proved so popular that we had a waiting list of 25 people for the new course that started in January 2002!

We now no longer run evening classes, but it was a wonderful adventure, lovely to be able to echo more the original way of teaching Reiki: over a longer period of time rather than in a couple of days. We found that the students built up a lovely sense of community as they progressed together.

For the benefit of any Masters who are thinking of teaching Reiki at evening class, I have put together a complete guide to teaching Reiki in this way, with First and Second Degree taught over 10 weekly sessions.

About this guide

In this guide you will find:

  1. A table giving an overview of the course, showing what we covered on each session: what we spoke about, what the students learned, what practical exercises they went through during each evening, what their handout contained, and what homework they were given.
  2. Ten A4 sheets to use as weekly handouts. Each sheet encapsulates what was done on that evening: it gives the essential points of the information that was imparted, recaps the practical exercises they were given, and gives them some homework to carry out.
  3. Suggestions as to how you can structure each evening class session, giving examples from Taggart’s notes.

If you wish you can use the enclosed handouts on your own evening classes, or use them as a guide to help you develop your own materials.

Testimonials

Here you can read testimonials from people who have purchased our "Teaching Reiki at evening class" guide.

"The information contained in the kit I downloaded was very helpful. It contained many relevant concepts for a Reiki class, that, coupled with the teaching I have received, as well as other source materials, provides me with a foundation I can use to teach classes. This material is definitely valuable. I can think of nothing that could be done to change or improve the content."

Chris Harris, USA

"I would like to thank you for the Evening Class Guide. It was full of great information and laid out in a easy to follow guide. I will definitely use this in my Classes."

Dr. Charles R Redwen, Nevada, USA

"The Reiki evening class guide downloaded with no problem at all. The content and layout is extremely good, an excellent guide for new reiki teachers. It covers everything required for teaching levels one and two and the format is flexible allowing for the individual teacher to personalise it should they so wish. Its great as it is of course!!!

I have been a reiki master practitioner for 2 years and am just beginning my teaching journey, I have looked at the other items you have to assist us, the handbooks, certificates etc - a great help to many, thank you."

Kay Clover, Hampshire

"I'm very interested in stepping outside the usual format of the 'weekend course' for my Reiki students and this carefully planned, comprehensive and authoritative guide will be great support material in running my Reiki evening classes."

Karen Jeckells, Nottinghamshire

"I started teaching Reiki at evening class before finding Reiki Evolution and bought the Evening Class guide partly out of curiosity about how someone else structured their classes and partly because it sounded like a useful resource, one that I was not (and still am not) aware of being available anywhere else. Since finding Reiki Evolution and learning the Japanese Reiki techniques, I've needed (or more accurately, wanted) to alter the way I teach to incorporate these techniques and the guide has been very useful with this.

I like the at-a-glance table; it is nice to have this overview ready-provided and has helped me when submitting course plans. Having guidance on talks to do, exercises to have the learners go through, and on handouts and homework has also been very helpful. I have perhaps used the guide more as a frame of reference to work around than following it slavishly (partly because I haven't been allocated 10-week sessions and haven't run Reiki 1 and 2 back-to-back), but it has certainly given me more confidence in what I'm doing in that I feel I'm starting from a solid, tried and tested foundation. Overall, I think it has improved things for both myself and my students: I feel I'm doing my job better because everything that *should* be covered *is* being covered and the learners are learning what they need to learn in a well-thought-out, well-structured way.

Can't think of any adverse comments (sorry!). Adult education classes run in such a variety of formats (length of individual sessions, length of course as a whole) that you'll not always get an exact match with the format of the guide - however, the table gives a clear overview of what you are probably going to want to cover, and the material is easy to adapt to different time slots, etc. Also, because the sections are designed around 2-hour "chunks", I think the guide actually has wider applications than just evening classes (e.g. for private courses). Another typically thorough resource!"
