Hello my name is Trevor Martin and I live in the country between Belfast and Lisburn in Northern Ireland with my Wife, two dogs and two cats. I have been teaching Reiki courses since mid 2007 all of which have been based on Reiki Evolution materials and methods. I run First Degree courses every month as well as Second Degree courses every other month. Also I offer one to one courses for those who wish to learn Reiki but who cannot attend on the scheduled dates.
Finding Reiki
I have a rather different background in that I my professional career in industry meant that I was basically a very driven and task orientated individual who was not at all drawn to things like the spirituality of Reiki. This all changed suddenly one Sunday in Church when I had an epiphany and left the service feeling unsure what had happened but I knew that I felt different. In fact I was too embarrassed to talk about the event until one day a chance meeting with an ex-Tibetan monk lead to him recommending that I investigate Reiki. My first Level 1 attunement was terrific and in the following days I started to treat my family and carry out energy exercises as well as reading copious numbers of Reiki and related books over the next months.
A period of time later I felt the need to progress to Reiki Level 2 where my power levels and healing ability went up as witnessed by those in my circle of friends whom I treated. In the months which followed I continued my reading, spiritual thinking and I loved the feel of the flow of energy through me as well as the afterglow I got when I helped people. Gradually I realised that my gift was best put to use helping people and I felt the strong need to change my lifestyle and become a Reiki Master/Teacher.
Choosing a Teacher was not easy and I carried lots of research on the subject before I came across Taggart King's website, Reiki Evolution. The style and nature of his school attracted me and I followed and read most of the links he provided on his site.
My training with Margaret Craig of Reiki Evolution in Glasgow was a revelation, as my previous non-Reiki Evolution Level 1 & Level 2 courses had been much less structured and I had been unhappy with the materials provided. Deciding that Reiki Evolution’s methodology was the best approach to teaching Reiki was easy following both the inspiration that I got from Margaret and my fellow students as well as the comprehensive materials I received from Taggart King.
My courses
I find that whilst the Reiki Evolution teaching style has a good overall structure, it still allows for each student’s individual needs to be met. They can learn at their own speed by listening to as well as reading the materials in advance of the course. I follow this up with an e-mail then just prior to the course that encourages each person to come to the course day with some questions on areas of Reiki on which they are unclear. I find that this initial question and answer as well as experience sharing session eases everybody into the day and helps us all to get to know each other.
I like teaching Reiki and I always end up really enjoying each course day. My style of teaching is very intuitive but I do not ignore basic elements, as they are more easily put into practise and give an excellent starting point for some students, e.g. basic hand positions. In particular I enjoy seeing the common points and the differences between each student. I have found that each person has unique talents which it is such a joy to see blossom on the day. Some people start off doubting they will be any good at Reiki but each student always ends up having a very positive experience as Reiki overcomes their doubts and energy flows into and out of them. I get pleasure from the fact that each student teaches me something new whether on the day or via their follow-up feedback.
Where to now?
I feel that Reiki has called me and it has certainly changed my life completely by developing my spirituality, broadening my intuition, helping me to bring healing to individuals and giving me a sense of direction. Things have had to be cast off and I know that more will follow but I believe that my future lies in Teaching and my chosen route is the Reiki Evolution path. I am committed to developing my practice and I hope that many more students will want to come to me in order to experience what Reiki can achieve in their lives.
