My name is Veronica Hayes. I’m a Reiki Evolution Master Teacher running courses in Suffolk. I live in Whepstead with my husband Richard and our two dogs. Whepstead is a peaceful little village set in beautiful, rolling Suffolk countryside and located just south of Bury St Edmunds. Close to the A14 and with excellent communications via the M11, clients and students come to me from all over Suffolk, Norfolk and Cambridgeshire.

My Reiki 1 courses are held every month, my Reiki 2 courses are held every other month and my Reiki Master Teacher courses are also held every 2 months.

A little about me

I was born in warmer climes when my English parents were living in Malaysia – my father was a Planter (rubber, not tea) and when he retired we moved permanently to Perth, Western Australia. There I did all my schooling and started my career in Training before moving onto Senior Management within the IT industry. I moved to Sydney with my work and loved living there but I found that my work was taking on a life of its own and at the same time, taking over my life too. When the opportunity came to take voluntary redundancy, I grabbed it with both hands and as it seemed to be a good time for a complete change of direction, moved back ‘home’ to England 16 years ago. I met Richard here, through sailing, which is a shared passion.

Finding Reiki

picture of Reiki students

I originally found Reiki by a most peculiar set of coincidences and circumstances – who would think that by accepting a last minute invitation to go to an ‘Open Evening’ at a dress shop (and I HATE shopping for clothes!), that I would feel sorry for the psychic who was there as so many of her appointments failed to show and so I had a reading with her that simply astounded me; that I would travel to her home for another, more detailed reading and that she would say to me, apropos of absolutely nothing – ‘I think you could do with some Reiki’.

I had never even heard the word mentioned before and yet it seemed as though the next thing I knew, I was driving an hour each way to have a treatment from someone I did not know. On the drive there, I seriously doubted what I was doing and wondered if I was being ‘conned’. But – and it’s a big BUT – I had been searching for a way forward and had asked God, The Universe, call it what you will, for help – so it seemed that the very least I could do was to pay some attention to this and see what happened.

Well, the treatment was wonderful and I felt so relaxed – so I booked myself on the next available Reiki 1 course. The course was life changing for me and I pursued my knowledge and understanding of Reiki passionately; I read all the books available, practised on my husband, my friends, my dogs and myself. Reiki 2 was next and strengthened my commitment.

How I found Reiki Evolution

By now I had set up my own Reiki practice and I knew that the time was right for the logical progression to Reiki Master Teacher level. My only concern at this point was that I felt something was missing – some of the history of how Reiki reached the West and the subsequent Western practices in Reiki felt uncomfortable and didn’t ring true. Put it down to my early life in the Far East and all the teachings I absorbed from the Chinese, Malay and Indian influences on me perhaps – but compounded by all the new information that was beginning to come through about Reiki’s true origins. After the Master/Teacher course I knew that I could never teach or pass on this view of Reiki, let alone the method of teaching! I wanted to find the truth about Reiki and its origins. Searching on the Internet I found Taggart King’s Reiki Evolution website and devoured every word on it. I knew I’d found the right Reiki Master for me at last.

In March 2006, I re-did both Reiki 1 and 2 with Taggart before moving onto my Reiki Master Teacher course with him.

A personal perspective on Reiki Evolution courses

With Taggart and Reiki Evolution, I found not only the truth I had been searching for, but also an extremely professional way of teaching; one that I would be proud to emulate and also one that sat well with my past experiences as a Trainer. From the moment I received my pre-course instructions to the final, bittersweet conclusion to the course, I simply could not have had better training. The course materials including the Manuals, CDs and DVD are comprehensively detailed with excellent photographic sequences to show you how something should be and look, even long after you have done the course and just need that little reminder of what to do. The in-depth feedback between student and Master was amazing and I learnt as much from that as I did from the course materials – this is how to run a course, how to teach Reiki, how to pass on the gift from Mikao Usui…

Both Taggart and Lorraine have always ‘been there’ for me whether it be by email or by telephone. And when either of them answers a question, it is done thoughtfully, with care and consideration to the student’s needs – even to the unspoken need behind the question. The on-going support from Reiki Evolution is second to none.

How Reiki has helped me

On a personal level, I (and Richard!!) found that I was calmer, more centred and goodness me, I was sleeping so well. My daily practice of Reiki helped me to put things into perspective; even difficult times and situations long past seemed to shift in balance for me. Best of all, the challenges I had experienced for many years with back injuries/problems caused by both horse riding accidents and the unfortunate result of someone thinking it would be amusing to throw me in a swimming pool but instead, dropping me on my back onto concrete, were disappearing. No longer did I have to visit my Chiropractor every 6 – 8 weeks or sometimes 2 – 3 weeks or worse. Simply amazing! If I had any doubts about Reiki ‘working’, then they were certainly swept away.

And Reiki has helped me to grow in other ways, giving me the confidence to move in a new direction and qualify in other Therapies such as Aromatherapy, Reflexology, Advanced/Deep Tissue Massage, Indian Head Massage, Hot Stones and more besides. All these Therapies are a perfect fit with Reiki flowing through and in them, so now all my clients benefit from receiving Reiki as well as whichever other treatment they have come to me for! It’s a truly ‘holistic’ way of treatment.

My Reiki courses

It is a great privilege to teach for Reiki Evolution and it is also a great privilege and responsibility to teach and introduce students to each and every level of Reiki. I’ve always loved teaching and I love watching my students as they feel the energy of Reiki, perhaps for the very first time – the wonder of it all is so plain to see on their faces. And that’s great because I remember what it felt like on my first Reiki course too! I like to provide each of my students with what, they, as individuals need, giving them time to grow and reach for their potential, so only having 4 students to each class is perfect for us all. There is time for individual attention, questions and answers, and perhaps extra time to practice something that someone might not feel so comfortable with. And there’s also time to have some fun and laughter along the way. I couldn’t do it any other way.

My beautiful treatment room is also my teaching room – wonderfully gentle and nurturing energy flows in this lovely old thatched and timber-framed home – and it is important to me to create a safe, caring environment for all – my clients and my students. As well as group courses, I also hold courses on a one -to- one basis; occasionally groups of 2 or 3 friends ask me to run a course ‘just for them’.

Feedback from some of my students is that I am approachable, warm and welcoming, gentle and encouraging, friendly and constructive in manner and course delivery, that my courses are relaxed, friendly and very enjoyable, a very positive experience. I look forward to meeting you and welcoming you to one of my courses too!

Support for my students

picture of Reiki students

We learn by example so often, and I have had the very best example from Taggart and Lorraine. So I support all of my students in a very similar way to them: - by being available by telephone or email if at any time students have a question, or just want to chat; by sending out weekly Distant Reiju Empowerments for them to receive; each of my students also receives an invitation from Taggart to join his Reiki Evolution Internet Discussion Group – a fantastic resource for everyone as it is a large group of supportive ‘friends’ to help each of us on our journey with Reiki whether it be just a place to read and learn from the messages posted, or to ask questions, or to join in some of the interesting and lively discussions held there; and finally the Reiki Shares I hold for all my students…

I hold Reiki Shares here at Leaf House every other month. They are held on a Saturday. At a Reiki Share, you can come along and participate in a treatment – you get more hands-on practice as well as receiving a treatment yourself. We start the Share with introductions, tea and chat. There’s some time for us all to share our experiences – stories you, (or others), might have to relate about your work with the energies following your course, or you might have questions to ask – we all learn and benefit from the Shares no matter level we have been attuned to! And it’s a fun experience; we share a lot of laughter and good humour. Next, I give Reiju Empowerments for those who wish to receive it, we add names to the Distant Healing book and we practice a Distant Healing session together before we then start the Share ‘proper’. It can be lonely out there with no one else to share our enthusiasm or interest in Reiki so a Reiki Share gives everyone the chance to be with like-minded people and have a chat about a common interest.

Finally

Reiki is now a cornerstone in my life; I practise the energy exercises, meditations and/or self-treatments every day. Reiki has given me so much joy, brought me the strength to look at myself and the strength to move forward in a positive manner through my life. It has brought me many new friends, some of whom I have never and probably will never meet! The Precepts that Mikao Usui taught us has given me the knowledge that Just for Today … I can try to be the very best I can – I don’t have to live up to the impossible task of being perfect forever – but Just for Today…

Reiki waits for you too – I look forward to welcoming you to Leaf House, to working with you and to welcoming you to the energy of Reiki.

With Smiles, warm wishes and Reiki,

Veronica
