This is another in our series of “My Reiki Story” posts that we will be adding to the Reiki Evolution blog, where a Reiki person talks about their journey with Reiki. In today’s “My Reiki Story” we hear from Lesley Rose from Lincolnshire…
My Reiki story started in the autumn of 1986. My employer sent me on a People Management Course at a local college. In the coffee break I was browsing the course brochures to try to maintain some semblance of sanity as the course was rather draining. I spotted a brochure for Reiki Level 1 and was drawn to it even thought I had no idea what Reiki was. The only experience I’d had of complementary therapy was Shiatsu, a very much “hands on” practice in my experience! To this day I still don’t really know why I booked to go on the course. The idea of such training was way outside my comfort zone in those days. I don’t think it was a coincidence that the Reiki course was being advertised whilst I was at that College. It had been months since my last visit. It was obviously meant to be!
The Reiki Evolution course was very relaxed and informative. My reservation about being out my depth was soon dispelled by a very supportive tutor. Receiving the empowerments from her was a very powerful and beautiful experience. Working in groups and receiving constructive feedback was a real confidence booster. Feeling the differing energies in the various hand positions was amazing, both in terms of giving and receiving. We had a few months break between Level 1 and Level 2, which I found useful both in terms of practicing, both on myself and family and friends, and studying the manual which is fascinatingly informative.
I meditate regularly, sometimes using Taggart’s CD. I use Reiki for cleansing and protecting space, self-healing, healing for friends and some distant healing. One big positive change that Reiki has brought is a new and close friendship. I was asked to help someone who would benefit from Reiki. I was a bit reluctant as I was newly trained and not very confident but I agreed. I packed my Reiki table in my car and made the visit. I ended up visiting on a weekly basis for several months. The experience was amazing and now we are firm friends as we both have an interest in energy work.
The tolerant nature of Reiki Evolution has also enabled me to expand my experience of energy and meditative work, for example I regularly practice Chi Kung and other meditative forms and I am also interested in crystals and plant spirit healing. I firmly believe that my Reiki training firmly underpins all my other work. People I work with often comment on the energy heat coming from my hands and my “butterfly” touch.
I believe that Reiki was the spring-board to give me the confidence to have a complete change in life. Part of that process involved sending Reiki to my future. Whilst not wishing to go into detail, the outcome was amazing! I was the only person not shocked by the outcome on that day as I’d sent the Reiki energy forward for “My greatest good”. This signalled the beginning of a major life change. I finally achieved this life change last year when I took early retirement after 35 years in local government. This took me about 18 months to achieve as the “road to retirement” wasn’t a straight one and at times I felt like I was Alice on the Checkerboard Field! I never gave up though. Reiki opened the door to a spiritual world I was unaware of but now I feel very comfortable in. There is an amazing amount of resources available to me spiritually that I was oblivious to a few years ago.
I am lucky enough to have a small box room which just fits my Reiki table so I have decorated it out as a small relaxation room. It’s a lovely blueberry-white space, full of positive energy. I always feel relaxed when I’m in there it be meditating or giving a treatment for friends. Wherever my spiritual path takes me I know that my foundation of Reiki will always be there.
