My Reiki Story: Sharon Earl

This is the first of a series of “My Reiki Story” posts that we will be adding to the Reiki Evolution blog, where a Reiki person talks about their journey with Reiki. In this first “My Reiki Story” we hear from Sharon Earl from Hertfordshire…

My reiki story began a year or so ago following several monthly visits to an complimentary therapist who combined reflexology with reiki. I went to her seeking healing and relief for my persistent sore shoulder and neck, and to also ease my muddled state of mind. I left with a pain-free shoulder and an increased sense of inner well-being.

Following this positive experience I wanted to find out more about healing energies and so, rather hastily I enrolled on a course that offered reiki levels one and two to be completed in one day. At the time, I did not fully understand the reiki process and the need to allow some time between levels, I was simply thinking of saving time and money. The day itself, unsurprisingly proved intensive and overwhelming. Bombarded with information I couldn’t assimilate, I felt confused and disillusioned.

This incident, however led to a desire to learn all I could about reiki. I immersed myself in the subject, reading up on all aspects of reiki in an effort to obtain a full rounded picture of it. I still felt confused however, but then it occurred to me I could try again, but this time to find the right course for me. My saving grace came one day when I came across the Reiki Evolution website. I knew immediately this was the one to try and so enrolled to take level 2. Firstly though I had the pre-course reading to work through, and when those hefty manuals arrived I have to say I was overjoyed! What I discovered was a comprehensive account of the origins and history of reiki along with the emphasis of daily spiritual practise, treatment methods and regular empowerments closely reflecting those taught by Mikao Usui. The result was a more authentic and intuitive style of reiki that I felt so at home with.

Receiving my empowerments on the day of my course felt both beautiful and special. Sue, our reiki master ensured that her small group of three were relaxed and informed throughout. My confidence in giving reiki greatly increased from spending a whole afternoon giving and receiving treatments. What I remember noticing most was the heat in my hands and the varying levels of energy I experienced as I moved around the person lying on the treatment bed.

Having trained with Reiki Evolution I now understand that reiki is first and foremost a spiritual way to live your life, a concept I hadn’t grasped at the beginning of my journey with reiki. It is this element however that has transformed my life for the better. I try to live by the precepts, and regularly meditate and self treat. I send out distant healing to family and friends, and when out walking, to the earth. I feel more at peace within and I’m sure this positively affects my interactions with others. I love to work with the energy and always feel energised by it. I regularly swap treatments with a friend and give short treatments to my children, who are very soothed by it.

Ultimately, I would like to have my own treatment room so that I can create a tranquil and healing space for my clients. I also want to be affordable enough to encourage people to do a course of treatments in order to get the greatest benefit. It is for these reasons I’ll wait until we move house, hopefully within the next few years, so that I can have my own dedicated room in which to practice from. My reiki story is far from ending.
