A simple way with Reiki symbols

simple reiki symbol method

Why so complicated?

In the West we like to make things complicated, and the way that most of us now use symbols is a world away from the simple approach that Usui used.

So how can we work with symbols in a way that echoes more the way that Usui taught his students?

Well firstly, Usui taught symbols to a very small number of people, just in the last few years of his life. The vast majority of his students were taught in a very different way.

Most of his students were given meditations to use so that they could,… Continue reading

Were you taught the correct ‘Power’ Symbol: Variations on CKR

Reiki started simply

Reiki is very simple, you know.

You start working with energy at First Degree and at Second Degree you’re introduced to three symbols that you can use.

These symbols were taught to the Imperial Officers and a few others by Usui Sensei, and Dr Hayashi passed them on to Mrs Takata, who taught them in the West.

One of those symbols was CKR, perfect and complete on itself – see above.

So we started messing about with it, which is fine – experimentation is a good thing – but some of the experiments have become ossified in… Continue reading

Feng shui your Reiki

Many of you will be familiar with Feng Shui, the Oriental art of placement, where you arrange your living environment to allow smooth flow of chi through your home, eliminating areas where chi will stagnate, and slowing down the speed of fast-rushing chi. So what has that to do with Reiki? Well they both deal with chi, but what I am really thinking of is applying the basic principles of Feng Shui to our practice of Reiki. This may seem a little strange, but please bear with me.

The basic principle of Feng Shui, the first thing you have to… Continue reading

Do I always have to use the symbols?

reiki symbols in treatments use

So many Reiki rules!

In most Reiki lineages the Reiki symbols are taught on the Second Degree course, though some are taught one symbol at First Degree I believe.

A lot of rules have built up about what you can and can’t do with symbols, what you always must do, and of course these rules end up being contradictory.

The only rule that applies to Reiki is ‘there are no rules’ I believe, and what I’d like to do here is just run through a few ‘symbol rules’ that you can choose to ignore.

Draw the symbols over your palm… Continue reading

Declutter your treatment rituals

declutter reiki treatment rituals

Time for a Reiki spring clean?

Reiki treatments are carried out in a lot of different ways and many rituals have been developed and passed on in different lineages.

Reiki has also been affected by the belief systems of people who are involved in other energy practices and it’s natural for Reiki teachings to become ‘coloured’ by a teacher’s personal quirks and idiosyncrasies too.

Trouble is, these practices end up turning into “this is the way that you have to do it” as they are passed on from teacher to student, teacher to new teacher, and that’s unfortunate since some… Continue reading

New Distant Healing meditations for you

To help Reiki people who are experimenting with distant healing, and looking for a method that suits them best, I have put together a collection of six distant healing meditations that you can use, and they are suitable for Reiki people at all levels, including First Degree. You can download the meditations straight away, as MP3 files, and listen to them as you carry out your distant healing.

I have been writing a series of blog posts on the subject of distant healing and if you have read them then you will know that I don’t believe there is… Continue reading

The 10 Rules of Reiki

In this article I thought I would set down ten things that you can do – ten principles to take account of – to benefit your practice of Reiki. This is not something that has come from Japan, or from early practitioners of Reiki: it is just something that I have put together myself. I hope that this article will be of interest to people at all Reiki levels.

(1) Reiki is all about you

Although Reiki is sometimes presented in the West as a sort of complementary therapy, a hands-on treatment technique, or a form of Japanese spiritual healing,… Continue reading

Ditch the Dogma in Reiki Distant Healing

reiki distant healing ditch dogma

Find your own distant healing method

Distant healing is carried out in a huge number of ways in different lineages. There is endless variety.

Some methods are more complex than others, and some approaches are more dogmatic than others.

Some students are taught that if they do not carry out distant healing in a particular way then it will not work for them. This is unhelpful and Reiki is certainly not constrained by the details of man-made rituals.

So what do we need for distant healing to succeed?

What does distant healing boil down to?

What are the essential steps?… Continue reading

How to send Distant Healing (Part 2)

reiki distant healing

Let’s explore Reiki distant healing

What I would like to do in a series of articles is to suggest some different DH approaches. Some may be familiar to you; some may be new. If you discover a new approach then try it for yourself and see how it feels, and come to your own conclusion about what seems the best way for you, the most comfortable ‘fit’.

Distant healing is a very important part of Reiki practice, of course, and is something that is not unique to Reiki. Distant healing (DH for short) is carried out in different Reiki lineages… Continue reading

How to allow your Reiki to flow more strongly

reiki energy exercises kenyoku joshin kokkyu ho

If you are at the beginning of your Reiki journey or at a point where you aren’t sure if your Reiki is flowing strongly, don’t worry. What I usually say to people practising is to ‘Let Go’ and ‘Let Reiki’. Simply, just let Reiki do what it needs to do, and where it needs to go. We are the channel not the source. Easier said than done when you’ve been amazed by how the Reiki 1 course changed your perspective on life and now as you are excitedly telling others about Reiki the next thing you know they want to… Continue reading

Keeping it simple

Reiki has certainly been transformational in my life. Since around 1995, my life was turned around and I was, and still am on a very gentle and simple way of life. Don’t get me wrong, I have had many challenges coming in, which would have sent me to *ga ga land*,  but on reflection of these times, I know that I have been sustained and protected by these awesome energies.

Even when I am not aware of this,  Reiki is always there in the background. Like a *silent witness*, standing back and permitting me to make the mistakes I need… Continue reading
